Hans H. Stein receives 2010 American Feed Industry Association Award
Hans H. Stein, Interim Director of the National Soybean Research Laboratory was recently named 2010 American Feed Industry Association Award Winner in Non-Ruminant Nutrition Research on Monday. Stein received this
award at the national meeting for the American Society of Animal Sciences in Denver.

Stein has been a University of Illinois associate professor in animal nutrition since 2006 and Interim Director of NSRL since January 2010. Stein has established himself as an international authority on the evaluation of feed ingredients for swine. The focus of Stein’s laboratory is on digestive physiology research, which he conducts with his graduate students and employees. Stein has mentored five post doctoral fellows and 21 graduate students. This research team has extensive experience in the area of measuring ileal and total tract energy and nutrient digestibility, and in measuring energy and nutrient balances. The team has published 67 peer-reviewed journal articles, four book chapters, 123 research abstracts, 32 conference proceedings, and 36 bulletins and Extension publications.

“This award is a tribute to the hard work and dedication of my former and current students, post-docs, and research assistants. I couldn’t have achieved this recognition without the support of my family and colleagues,” Stein said.

As Executive Director of NSRL, Stein provides leadership and strategic direction regarding soybean research, outreach and education efforts from production through consumption. Stein serves as a liaison between the University and industry stakeholders forming affiliations and alliances that dynamically respond to the evolving technological and marketing conditions
of the soybean industry. Stein’s priorities are to expand the scope and size of the soybean industry and the profitability of soybean farmers.

Stein will be presenting at the 3rd Soy Symposium , Health, Social-Cultural and Market Perspectives in Surabaya, Indonesia beginning August 2, 2010.
