Greeting from the Expert
I am pleased to be a part of the StratSoy project. As I understand
my role in StratSoy, I will receive and attempt to answer your
questions related to tillage, soil compaction and machinery
management. Here in the Agricultural Engineering Department at the
University of Illinois, I have worked on comparing various tillage
systems for corn and soybean production, soil compaction as affected
by tillage (or lack of tillage) and wheel traffic, and machinery
management including selection, operation, and costs.
Employment
John Siemens received the B.S. degree in Agricultural Engineering
from the University of California and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees
from the University of Illinois. From 1963 to 1968 he was on the
teaching and research staff of the Agricultural Engineering
Department at Cornell University.
Since 1968 he has been with the Agricultural Engineering Department,
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with responsibilities in
power and machinery extension and research.
Research
His primary work is on the effects of tillage system and soil
compaction on corn and soybean production, and on optimal selection
and management of agricultural machinery for farms in Illinois.
