'Downloading' means copying a file from a computer somewhere on the Internet to your own computer. It is a simple process. The following steps will guide you through the process of updating your local file.

  1. Tell the computer you know what you are doing:
When it displays the Unknown File Type dialogue box with four buttons, click on the Save File button.

  2. Rename the file that the remote computer is going to download to your computer.

A Save As dialogue box will appear:

    • If you are downloading the current list of people, "Eudora_ppl.cgi" will appear in the text area for File Name:. Select this file name so it is highlighted. Start typing, "people.txt" to replace "eudora_ppl.cgi" as the filename.

    • If you are downloading the current list of offices, "Eudora_ss.cgi" will appear in the text area for File Name:. Select this file name so it is highlighted. Start typing, "offices.txt" to replace "eudora_ss.cgi" as the filename.

  3. Tell the computer in which directory to put the new file.
Usually, the directory path will be c:\eudora\nickname\ . If your path is different, click to the appropriate place. Click on the OK button.

  4. Tell the computer that you want to copy over your old list of addresses.
If you have pointed to the correct file location (above), you will be presented with a warning that you are about to replace an existing file. Since this is what you want to do, click on the Yes button.

  5. Start Eudora mail.
When you access your Address Book , your current list of email addresses will be there, ready to use.
