The HTML Training Event

April 16-18, 1996

We certainly enjoyed the two days spent with you on April 16 -18, 1996. Twenty two participants from twelve states gathered for two days of training and a look at some new tools to use in their work.

While the Stratsoy Project continues to unfold, its three overall objective remain the same -

  • enhanced communications,
  • a research database,
  • an information system.

During the first part of the Stratsoy Project, information to be shared on the WWW was sent by each state office to the University of Illinois for preparation and loading. Through this process, each Stratsoy office started its own home page and began thinking about the wealth of information it had locally to share with people around the world. A number of offices have provided newsletters about their state activities, research , press releases, and calendars. Until now, each state office has been dependent on someone else to prepare this in a timely manner.

During the second phase of the Stratsoy Project, state offices will begin to share the responsibility for maintaining their own home pages. This includes paying attention to the accuracy, timeliness and relevance of the information provided by their office for the WWW. There will be a variety of models by which state offices can participate in the second phase of the Stratsoy Project.

  • Some offices will continue to send all their material in to the University of Illinois for processing. However, these offices will send material in more frequently, they will increase the material made available, they will request to have outdated materials take down in a timely manner and they will check to be sure that their links perform as exepected.
  • Some offices will make contact with a local service to begin development of additional information.
  • Some offices will have their own personnel develop and manage material for their home page.

The intent of the HTML Training is to empower each Stratsoy office move in an appropriate manner toward the second phase of the Stratsoy Project. The HTML Training will help offices feel confident in taking on a new role as WWW information providers.
